After a very good nights sleep, I left the campsite quite late and headed off towards Newquay. After an hour or so I reached Crantoch, a charming village with a post office selling pasties. Obviously I bought one. In the post office they told me it was high tide so the normal bridge to cross into Newquay would not be usable for several hours. I took the alternative route heading over fields in the sunshine again. I arrived in Newquay at lunchtime, celebrated with a rum and raisin ice cream and bought mint tea and blister plasters.

Newquay was busy and so I continued on walking along the cliffs towards Mawgan Porth with spectacular views all the way but easy walking.

The walk to Mawgan Porth was incredibly peaceful and I took my time, lingering over the views. At about 4pm I spied the Merrymoor Inn from a distance, a pub much vaunted for its food and hospitality. I had steak and chips with chimmichurri sauce thinking how much Helen would have loved it. I stayed for 2 hours then set off again hoping to find a place to wild camp.

At about 7pm I arrived at the Bedruthan Steps, pictured at the beginning of this post. It was still early to stop, but the spot was perfect so I pitched my tent, replenished water at a nearby stream and waited for the sunset.
Day Summary
A very relaxing day, only 14 miles walked, but the most enjoyable so far. I vowed to be easier on myself in the days to come.
